Bob Newman, KA6HJV _ SK

Bob Newman, KA6HJV, long time resident of Fairfax, CA was surrounded by his family when he passed away on March 27, 2010 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 83. Bob was born in Sacramento, CA in 1927 and moved to Fairfax at age 10. Bob was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the 25th Infantry Division. After serving his country, Bob came home and married his one and only sweetheart in 1953. Bob worked for Jewel Tea Home Shopping Service for 25 years where he had a large customer base throughout Marin. Bob was a long time member of the Fairfax Masonic Lodge #556 in Larkspur, CA and served as Secretary for 30 years. He was also a member of the Shiner’s, Scottish Rites and Royal Order of Jesters. In addition to his love for his lodge and brethren, Bob was also a member of the Amateur Ham Radio Operators Club and enjoyed his weekly radio call duties. Bob was preceded in death by his lovely wife Marie in October 1988. His loving son Robert Newman of Vacaville, CA and loving daughter Debra Newman of Santa Cruz, CA and many cousins, survives him. Inurnment will be private at Mt Tamalpais Cemetery. Memorial services are pending and will be held at the Masonic Lodge and will be announced at a later date. Bob’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society . Bob was a caring and loving man with a wonderful sense of humor and will be deeply missed by his family, brethren and circle of friends.

SK - Retired San Francisco Police Sgt and Red Cross Emcomm Volunteer Jim Seim, KI6GJT

James “Jim” Roger Seim Resident of Danville. James “Jim” Roger Seim passed away peacefully on March 26, 2010 in Alamo, California at the age of 65 after battling cancer for 2 years. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and raised in Portland, Oregon. In 1966 Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army Security Agency for 4 years and was based at Fort Devens, Massachusetts and Herzo Base in Herzogenaurach, Germany. In 1971 Jim joined the SFPD, serving as a loyal Police Officer for 38 years before retiring as a Sergeant in charge of the MUNI Response Team. Jim previously worked at Central, Southern, Park, Ingleside and Taraval stations. He also served as a Crime Scene Investigator, the management control unit and Internal Affairs. Jim earned his B.A. in Administration of Justice in 1981. In 1992, Jim graduated from California State University, Hayward, with a double Masters in Public Administration and Organizational Change. Jim’s hobbies included dancing, books, flying, and amateur radio operations (including Red Cross Emergency Communications). He was an active member of the Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church (LOPC). Jim is predeceased by his father Harvey Seim and brother Bill Seim. Jim is survived by the mother of his three children Linda Seim-Morris; daughter Laurie Verkest; sons Roger Seim and Marc Seim; grandson Austin Seim; mother Inez Seim; brothers Tom and Joel Seim; Tom’s wife Della; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 12 noon at Sullivan’s Funeral Home, 2254 Market Street, San Francisco, California 94114. Interment to follow Oakmont Memorial Park, Lafayette, CA. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society , 1710 Webster Street, Oakland, California 94612. David Barrow Warner

David Barrow Warner, 74, passed away at NorthBay Medical Center on Saturday, February 20, after a series of strokes.
Dave was born on July 16, 1935, to Edwin and Marian Barrow Warner in Meadville, Pennsylvania. He also lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Fort Collins and Greeley, Colorado. He later moved to California where he graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, majoring in electronic engineering. After working at Lytton Industries, he received his teaching credentials and taught at Golden West, Armijo High School, and for over 30 years at Fairfield High School in Fairfield, California.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Brian.
Survivors include his wife, Jacklyn of Fairfield; daughter, Jennifer (Glen) Martin of Reno, Nevada; brothers, James (Janet) of Squaw Valley, California, and Richard (July) of Placerville, California; and seven grandchildren.
Dave loved the outdoors, especially hiking with the Boy Scouts, and was a docent at Lynch Canyon. He was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in various capacities. Recently, he was helping with the 11-year-old scouts and helping at the Oakland Temple. Another interest of his was ham radio.
He will be missed deeply by his family and members of the various activities he was so involved in.
Interment will be private at Rockville Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2700 Camrose Ave., Fairfield.

Silent Key - Mel Beals, NC6Y

Mel “NC6Y” Beals June 12, 1936 ~ Jan. 28, 2010 Resident of Pittsburg Melvin Leon Beals was born on June 12, 1936 in Sondheimer, Louisiana. He moved to Pittsburg, California with his mother and father, Beatrice and George Parker, in 1941. He passed away on January 28, 2010. Melvin graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1955. He served the United States Marine Corps from 1958-68 and earned many medals and commendations including a Purple Heart. Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Walter “Willis” Beals; mother, Beatrice (Watkins) Parker; father, George Parker, Sr. and brother, George Parker, Jr. Melvin is survived by Marietta Beals; sons, Mark and Shawn; daughter, Yvonne; and granddaughters, Vanessa and Sydney. He is also survived by his sisters, Ethel (Wally) Cox, Willa (Carl) Parsons, Joanne (Henderson) Parker and Addie (Sam) Coston; and brother, Alonzo (Carolyn) Parker all of Pittsburg, California and many cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. David Seth Melnick, WA6POR - SK

PhotoDavid Seth Melnick Born November 23, 1956, died May 23, 2009 unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep while traveling in China with his wife, Terri. David was born in San Francisco CA. and raised in Marin. He earned an associate degree at College of Marin and served as student body president. David received a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, SF. and was involved in the Master’s Program at Golden Gate University. David specialized in the information technology field for over 30 years. Married in June 1981, moved to Lafayette CA in 1995. A dedicated family man, David was a past coach for Twin Cities Soccer League and Lafayette LL. He also served as a volunteer for the Orinda Academy. David enjoyed sailing, traveling, and cycling. He was a HAM radio operator and was affiliated with the Mt Diablo Amateur RC. David was a man of integrity and honesty and a very giving person. He always found time to help others. He loved to read and had a voracious appetite for learning. He will remain forever in the hearts of his wife, Terri; son, Monte; parents, Jack and Marjorie; mother-in-law, Elaine Renas; sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and Bryon Botsford; and nephews, Alec and Cole. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 20th at 2:30pm in The Lake Room at Heather Farms on 301 N. San Carlos Dr., in Walnut Creek, CA.
